Dojo Gear

UNIFORM:

gear uniform
A gi is the standard uniform for studying Japanese martial arts such as Aikido, Judo, and Karate. Beginning students usually opt for a light-weight gi. Heavy-weight gis are sometimes purchased for tournament Kata competitions due to the snap the heavier cloth canvas makes when techniques are performed. The Karate gi tends to be lighter than a Judo gi or Jiu Jitsu Kimono which are constructed to be grabbed and pulled on. For grappling competition, a Judo gi or Jiu Jitsu Kimono is the preferred choice. For training in the dojo, either a Karate gi, Judo gi or Jiu Jitsu kimono is acceptable, but the uniform must be white only.

BELT:

A coloured belt indicating the karateka's rank completes the uniform.

PATCHES:

There are three patches that are worn on the uniform in this dojo.

T-SHIRT:

The students may wear a plain white t-shirt under their uniform top or the black dojo t-shirt or the white Shorinjiryu Genbukan Karate Federation t-shirt.

PERSONAL EQUIPMENT:

A mouth guard, groin protection, skipping rope, refillable water bottle, sweat towel and equipment bag to change and store street clothes / karate uniform and equipment.

TENUGUI:

A multi purpose Japanese traditional towel.

SPARRING GEAR:

Student's must purchase their own foam head, sparring hand and foot protection, groin guard and mouth guard to practice sparring and to participate in open tournaments. The club has some "SUPER SAFE" chest protectors for Shorinjiryu tournaments.

WEAPONS:

There are two traditional weapons that are taught at this dojo.
