Sensei Leroy Throop (4th Dan Shorinjiryu Genbukan Karatedo) has been a long time enthusiast of the Shorinjiryu Karate devised by
Kaiso Masayoshi Kori Hisataka (Seiki Kudaka in Okinawan).
Sensei Throop originally began his training with Mr. Kwok Chan, who taught Northern Shaolin Kung Fu & Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan. Mr. Throop received official certification from Mr. Chan to teach these two arts.
Sensei Throop also received his Black Belt certificates in Ninja-Ryu Jiu Jitsu, and was an amateur boxer for the Kingston Boxing Club. He was a driving force to introduce Kick-boxing to Kingston Ontario, by inviting legendary Canadian Kickboxing Champion Jean Yves Theriault to Kingston for a kick-boxing seminar and getting club members into amateur kick-boxing events.
Sensei Throop was a fierce competitor in the shiai division, and won in many of the Shorinjiryu Kenyukai Karate tournaments held in Quebec and Ontario Canada, and in Baltimore Maryland U.S.A. He received each of his black belt gradings from Mr. Shigeru Ishino of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and also attended seminars presented by Mr. Shunji Watanabe in Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A.
After the collapse of Shorinjiryu Kenyukai Karate in Canada, Sensei Throop eventually created Shorinjiryu Tenkeikai Karate, maintaining the Shorinjiryu style Kata & Kumite, but also including his Kung Fu, Western boxing and kick-boxing experience along with Jiu-Jitsu grappling expertise for combative strategy.
Sensei Throop also incorporated his Tai Chi experience for warm-up/cool down exercises, and as a recuperative exercise from hard style training and competition.
